In the best Tejano artist category the nominees were Fama, Jay Perez, Bobby Pulido and Shelly Lares. Despite a few brief showers Sunday afternoon, fans turned out in droves for the PLML Fanfair. The festival started early afternoon but by 4 p.m. the grounds beyond the pavilion were crowded with fans, many of them families with children in tow. By late Sunday the crowds were so large, fans had to park five to six 5-6 blocks away around from Sunset Station. PLML show producer Cesar Medrano said he was pleasantly surprised at the turnout, despite the dark clouds and brief rains. “I think we had more, better talent this year and more artists showed up to participate,” he said. Over by the Gibson Guitars Tour bus, Latino Entertainment Relations Manager Maclovio Perez III said the lines of fans at the artists autograph booths were heavy all afternoon. “We are here because we're sponsors of the Premios. And we're happy to participate in generating excitement for the awards,” he said. All afternoon a steady parade of artists, including Joe Posada, Javier Galvan and David Lee Garza, came by the tour bus to autograph two signature Gibson guitars. One guitar was to be given away to a lucky fan Sunday afternoon while the other would be given away at the awards ceremonies.
