Biography
The Bay Area has produced some of the most noteworthy figures in the history of hip hop: Tupac Shakur, Too Short, E-40, Digital Underground, and Mac Dre, to name a few. The next prime contender to uphold this grand legacy is Starski, whose debut single, "Car Shinin'", (featuring Mistah F.A.B.) has stirred up a massive street buzz, winning KMEL's Battle of the Bay an unprecedented four times (and counting). Starskis Cadillac-smooth style not only evokes his legendary Bay Area predecesors - with the slow-cooked street drawl, the hypnotic hooks, and the fur-lined, trunk-crackin beats - but also adds dashes of southern and east coast influences to the unique musical gumbo that more than hints at a universal flavor and appeal. Starski was raised on the sun-drenched, bullet-riddled streets of California, first in the south (Venice, South Central), then migrating north (Santa Rosa, Oakland). Guided in a musical direction, Starski graduated from Hollywood Musicians Institute with a degree in production, and later sharpened his skills logging long hours at The Grill Studio in Oakland. In between paid sessions, Starski would squeeze in late night projects of his own, striving to create that signature musical blend. Driven with the overwhelming desire to control his own destiny, Starski, along with production collaborator, Miguel Mundo (a.k.a. "Hutch") formed their own facility in San Francisco, Studio 7, where they have since recorded and produced countless West Coast artists. Fueled by the success of Studio 7, Starski and Hutch launched their own independent label, Pimp Hop Records, dedicated to the development of groundbreaking, up and coming rap artists. Starskis debut album, Pimp Hop, due in late 2006, is the product of hard work, determination, and the discipline required to make impossible dreams become reality. Pimp Hop features many notable guest appearances, including Mistah F.A.B., The Team, Keak the Sneak, Casual and A-Plus from The Hierogylphics, and Turf Talk. Currently, Starski has been busy adding his hazy, deep-fried touch to various West Coast mix tapes, performing live throughout Northern California, and will soon film his first video in preparation for the dropping of his next single, "Snow Bunnies." With music in his blood, and money on his mind, Starski is destined to make a major mark on the hip hop community in the very near future.
